Will AI End Developer Jobs? For the Discouraged Beginner: DO NOT STOP STUDYING, MAN - The Market Will Create WAY More Jobs Than It Loses
Hey, dev Twitter crowd. Every day I see it on X: beginners posting “I’m going to quit programming, AI will replace everyone,” intermediates saying “tech layoffs, 2026 is going to be chaos.” I understand the discouragement. I’ve been a C/C++/Java dev for years and I’m preparing to transition into an AI Engineer role. I’ve already gone through hype cycles, fear, and “junior roles disappeared.” But I’m telling you from the heart, with data on the table: AI is NOT going to end jobs in tech. It’s going to multiply them, and the scenario remains VERY favorable for those who keep studying.
Look at the cold numbers from the WEF Future of Jobs 2025: by 2030, AI and related technologies will create 170 million new jobs worldwide and displace only 92 million. That is a positive balance of 78 million jobs. In Brazil the story is even hotter: AI/ML Engineer is the fastest-growing role for the third year in a row (LinkedIn). AI automation job openings exploded by nearly 1000% in a short period. There are more than 530 thousand open IT jobs here without enough qualified people to fill them. The IT market in Brazil is expected to grow 18% in 2026 because of digitalization plus AI.
Why is creation >> loss? Because implementing AI in EVERY sector is a ton of work, and it needs DEVS.
Just think about it:
Healthcare, agribusiness, finance, retail, education, legal… every sector needs people to connect AI to real systems.
It’s not just “more devs.” These are brand-new roles: AI Engineer, agentic AI specialist, human-AI integrator, data trainer, citizen developer (low-code to prototype fast).
The traditional dev does not disappear. They evolve. 67% of Brazilian devs expect the emergence of new opportunities in 2026. 63% see more specialized roles. Smaller teams, but turbocharged, and with huge impact.
AI boosts productivity like crazy. A company that previously needed 10 devs can now do the same with 4 and use the other 6 to create 3 new products with AI built in. More product = more jobs. Simple as that.
For you who are just starting and feeling discouraged:
Stop doomscrolling and go back to VS Code. The beginner who studies today will enter the market when demand for people who know how to implement AI is exploding. AI does not replace people who think, architect, and solve real problems. It replaces repetitive tasks. Whoever knows how to code and use AI as a tool will be ahead.
For intermediate and advanced developers:
Study now. Learn how to integrate: LangChain, autonomous agents, RAG, fine-tuning. Focus on domain plus tech. 55% of developers already expect major change in 2026, but the ones who prepare become the people companies fight to hire.
In short: the whole “the end of tech jobs” climate is nonsense. The future is favorable for those of us who do not stop studying. Whoever uses AI to code faster and implement solutions in any sector will ride this wave.
So let’s act, dev:
Beginner: do not give up. Start small, use AI to learn faster, but write the code yourself.
Intermediate/Advanced: evolve. Turn your knowledge into “AI + your domain.”
Track your skills (I created MyGaps exactly for this - it maps 1400+ skills across dev, cyber, game dev, and AI with charts and recommendations so you know what to study now).
So, what is your level? A beginner thinking about quitting? Or are you already preparing to implement AI? Comment below: what is the first sector you want to attack with AI? Healthcare? Agribusiness? Finance?
If you liked it, share it with that beginner dev who is discouraged or with that intermediate friend who needs a push. Let’s code the future together, man. @dionisiodev
